Prayer, ELCA, and Churchless Christianity

9/11 Prayer Event:
This, from CNS … a prayer event for the nation in the face of the many struggles with which we are faced. Although the date of the prayer event is a date that will go down in history as a “Day of Infamy,” it is not only to “commemorate the tragic happenings of that day,” but to plead to God for a spiritual awakening.
If you cannot attend one close to you, please lift up a prayer for our nation and our leaders as well as for the Lord to move in all our lives.
What is the ELCA Thinking?
As a Lutheran who was born into the ALC, I see, in my mind’s eye, all the pastors I have had literally turning over in their respective graves. It wasn’t very many years ago that the head pastor at the congregation I grew up in and called “home” was removed because he was a homosexual. It is a denomination that I have always loved and admired, but now … I don’t know. How could this happen? Could compromise have something to do with it?
How the ELCA Left the Great Tradition for Liberal Protestantism.
Thinking about Christianity without the Church?
In one respect, this is a natural follow-up to the above entry because with the changes that the ELCA convention has appeared to adopt, there will be people looking for a new church home and where is that going to be? With the way that some have become disappointed with the church in general, they will be tempted to say “I can just as well stay at home and read the Bible and worship God in the way that is best for me.” Don’t fall into that trap!
Especially read the section about the greatest dangers of churchless Christianity. He has some fine points that ought to be recognized and heeded — especially if you think you are considering leaving a church or if you think you can “go it alone.”
It is important to remember that Christ is the one who founded the church and He expects us to take advantage of all it has to offer.
Why Churchless Christianity Doesn’t Work.
Just a word of thanks …
to all of you who have been reading. I write in fits and starts and it is, no doubt, frustrating for some of you.
